My heart's desire is for restoration, healing and reconciliation for the people of this country. To see people living whole lives with peace, freedom and joy. My heart is called especially to the at-risk youth of this country. Exciting things are happening now! We get to be apart of it!

Making friends and waiting in the big city

What I'll be doing for the next 2 months:

I will be investing a lot of time in language learning and reseraching different organizations working with at risk youth to find an organization and a team of people that I can fully stand with, grow with, teach and learn with.

I will be tutoring a few students that I taught in 2010 as well as being available in a community outreach worker and mentor role to the youth I worked with in 2012.

I will be continueing in converstation wtih local leaders and professionals about the need for a youth drop in centre.

I also hope to find the opportunity to teach more swing dance lessons! I need a swing dance partner! Pray for that!

If you would like to support this work and the work that is to come after these initial months, I am still in need of monthly support. I am looking for $892 more a month to bring the total to $1200/ month.

This salary will allow me to stay in South East Asia in a volunteer capacity as well as keep student loan interest covered at home in Canada.

A friend also loaned funds to cover the one way flight and I am still needing to pay that off, $500 will be a good start and I will use the rest from my monthly salary to pay off the rest.

If you feel that this journey in volunteering and what is to come in this ministry is something you would like to support, you can give online through this website or with an e-mail transfer. If you know me personally, you can send me an e-mail, otherwise, I can be contacted through Love Global.

    Blessings and Joy!

    Friends and Family,

I landed safely after two flights and a short layover totally 19 hrs or so of travel.
The big city is as I left it, from what I can see. It is very humid and quite hot. Walking down the street my back was soaked, pleasant. But when I am inside the aircon for too long I look forward to being back in the heat. I can't wait to go swimming!

I'm a bit out of sorts because I am still in the big city waiting...and won't make it back to the border town to see friends for a few more days. Then I will head back to to the city a few days later to catch my flight for the 2 week language course, where I will know others taking the course. Feels like 60 to 0...but things will get busy again in 4 days.

Alright so nothing too exciting to report, but I am here safely and have met some cool dutch girls in the hostel to chat with.

    Peace and Joy!

Other ministry orgs have suggested that if I volunteer with them I should raise $2500 a month, but I decided to set my salary lower, at $1200.

Note that the funds raised on the funds counter on this page  reflect the 2,350 that was raised last year on this page and donations given via cash, cheque and e-mail transfer are not reflected there, but are accounted for in my description on this page, in my newsletters and to in my quarterly excel budget and ministry reports to Love Global.

The total goal for April 18th, is 4,660. My expenses in Canada, speaking and share events and trainings have been covered by my income during, Feb, March and April as well as support from immediate family members and 3 monthly love global donors.

    Getting ready to leave...

We have already raised $1006 through reoccuring monthly giving this year

Our goal for April 20th is $4,660.  Remaining - $3,654   Jazz Event goal is $3000

This will cover two-way flight, travel visa, travel expenses, health insurance and first month's salary (which is covering the cost of a two week intensive language training course).

Our monthly goal for for June to December is $1200 a month. For a total of $8,400 for 7 months.

This monthly salary allows me to...

work with at-risk youth in a mentorship capacity, tutor youth, yunng adults and elders in the community who need special attention, a non-traditional style of teaching and can't afford a tutor, it allows me to do ESL workshops with different community based organization staff, shadow teacher trainings (and soon train) in the refugee camps, attend a two week intensive language class (Burmese) and continue language tutoring afterwards, do research on organizations working with at-risk youth on the border and inside the country. This year I will also be offering discounted and volunteer swing dance classes to migrant schools and staff on the border.

Other organizations have suggested  I raise $2500  a month, but I have decided to set my salary lower for the time being and consider retirement options and a higher savings at a later date.
